Background:
Over the past seven years, I have had the privilege of providing supervision for MA and Ph.D. students, completing their degrees and/or licensing requirements. I’ve also worked with professional Psychologists who are seeking to complete their psychotherapy requirements or to gain insight into working with complicated cases.
How I work:
As a supervisor, I am keenly interested in helping facilitate psychotherapists’ skill acquisition and strengthening as well aiding in their more elusive psychotherapist identity development. As with other forms of growth, the latter comes from therapists trusting in their own process of becoming the therapist they want to be; intentionally bringing to bear not only their clinical skills, but their values, desires and vision of the type of helper they want to become.
I encourage supervisees to bring in recordings of their sessions to their supervision. These allow for more “in-vivo” renderings of the psychotherapy processes. They also provide a more accurate, first-hand, account of sessions.
In supervision, I use an integrative approach that brings together elements from : EFT (Emotion-Focused Therapy), Mindfulness, Self-compassion, Psychodynamic and Constructivist psychotherapies. All interventions are informed foremost by Feminist, Humanist, Existential and Multicultural frameworks and theoretical underpinnings.
